Manish can read and write in English now

manish-061813
Manish, a bright 15-year old and 10-grader had been studying at a government school in a low income neighborhood in Mumbai, India. Though he was supposed to know English well, since it was a part of the school curriculum, he did not feel comfortable speaking or writing in the language.

Pratham conducted a learning camp in his neighborhood a year ago, and tested all the students in that area for proficiency in various subjects. When the tests revealed that Manish was not at grade level in English and Math, his parents enrolled him in a Pratham Learning Center in the vicinity. Over the course of the year, he has learnt to read and write English with the help of Pratham’s special teaching techniques, as well as the care and attention of his Pratham-trained teacher at the Center.

He has also enjoyed learning Geography because it enables him to know a lot more about the Earth, and beyond! Manish loves attending the Learning Center after school, as learning is now fun and interesting, and he feels confident when he goes to his regular class. His parents are happy that the Pratham Urban Learning Center keeps him off the streets, and on track to complete his high school next year.

Manish’s academic success and brighter future is a direct result of the financial support given by US donors to Pratham, without which it could not provide Manish and hundreds of other students like him the support and succor of a neighborhood Learning Center. Thank you!
