Nine year old Ashtuq lives in a slum comminity in Mumbai and is a student of grade 5 in a local school. Despite being in secondary school, Ashtuq struggles to read words in Marathi. Pratham recently started a remedial summer camp in his community, and in a few weeks, his teachers are confident that Ashtuq will start reading books fluently. Ashtuq wants to become a police officer when he grow up. He loves playing cricket in his spare time, and is very happy that the team that he supports made it to the finals of the national league.

Since he still cannot read and write fluently in Marathi, he is enrolled in a remedial Summer Camp organised as a part of Pratham’s Read India program, and in a few weeks, he is expected to graduate to reading entire stories.

Twelve year old Shezan lives in a slum comminity in Mumbai and is a student of grade 7 in a local school. Shezan is a keen sportsman and wants to become a police officer when he grows up. Depsite being in secondary school, Shezan struggles with reading words, which makes it very difficult for him to keep up with his class. He is currently enrolled in a remedial Summer Camp organised as a part of Pratham’s Read India program, and in a few weeks, he is expected to graduate to reading entire stories

Shezan is a born leader, and has appointed himself the guardian of the other kids in his class. With your support, he is sure to do well in life.

Ten year old Zakiya lives in a slum comminity in Mumbai and is a student of grade 4 in a local school. Though she loves reading and writing in Urdu, Zakiya struggles to identify the letters of the Marathi alphabet, because of which she is constantly lagging behind in class. She is currently enrolled in a Summer Camp organised as a part of Pratham’s Read India program, and in a few weeks, she is expected to graduate to reading entire stories. Sadaf is very clear about what she wants to do when she grows up- she wants to become a teacher and inspire the next generation of students.

Sakshi has discovered the world of mystical kingdoms

Seven year old Sakshi is in grade one in Madhya Pradesh.  She has an enormous imagination.  She loves to daydream and conjure up tales of mystical kingdoms and magical princesses.  Through Pratham’s Library Program, she was able to discover and explore the imaginations of other authors.   The programs introduced her to storybook worlds which have enhanced her already creative mind.

Sheetal looks forward to the library classes

Nine year old Sheetal from Delhi used to find school boring. “My parents sent me to school but it’s was not as interesting as running on the streets with friends,” she used to say. Until one day her school started Pratham Library class. The class is not like other classes but a fun period where she is allowed to pick and read the book she likes. The Pratham teacher tells stories and Sheetal too is allowed to spin her own. “It’s a different kind of class where puppet shows, craft work and book making happens,” she says. Sheetal’s teachers are surprised to see her enthusiasm towards school now. Thanks for your contribution towards Read India’s Library programme.

Khushi comes to the class daily and learns rhymes, numbers and lots of stories. She is fond of the train and wishes to ride on it one day.
