A flair for poetry

Eight year old Madina studies in a Government school in Grade two in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. She lives with her parents and her sister in Miltanagar, a low income neighborhood of Ahmedabad. Madina’s father is a Rangrez (dyer) and her mother makes kites.

When Pratham conducted a learning camp in her neighborhood a year ago, and tested all the students in that area for proficiency in various subjects, the tests revealed that Madina was not at her grade level in language. This led her father to enroll her in a Pratham Learning Center in their neighborhood. Over the course of the year, Madina has learned to read and write with the help of Pratham’s special teaching techniques, as well as the care and attention of her Pratham teachers.

Madina is kind and gentle, with a flair for poems and short stories. With time, care and attention, her teachers believe that Madina will flourish in her studies.

Her father is very happy with her progress and wants Madina to continue at the Center, for as long as possible. Madina loves to study and her teachers are fully supportive of her and want her to have a bright and fulfilling future.
