Learning to love school

rsz_1sima
Nine year old Sima studies in Grade three in a Government School in Bankura District, West Bengal. At first, Sima refused to attend school. She would often come to school; put her school-bag in the classroom and leave school. During lunch time, she would come back to eat her mid-day meal and go back home.

When Pratham conducted a learning camp in her neighborhood and tested all the students in that area for proficiency in various subjects, the tests revealed that Sima was not at her grade level in language and math. Her family enrolled her in a Pratham Learning Camp during the summer vacation.

Over the course of the camp, Sima has learned to read and do simple two digit addition sums with the help of Pratham’s special teaching techniques. When Sima started the camp, she couldn’t recognize letters, but now she knows the entire alphabet.

Sima’s parents are very happy with her progress and want Sima to continue attending Pratham’s learning camps. They feel that attending these camps has not only helped in improving her language and math levels but has also piqued her curiosity and interest in other subjects.

Sima loves attending the Learning Camps as she feels that learning is now fun and interesting. She also feels confident when she goes to school. Sima wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Thank you to all of you for supporting Sima and helping her learn and grow!!
