Seven year old Divanshu joined Balwachan; soon after he moved to Trilokpuri from a village outside of New Delhi. The Balwachan class, full of energetic, cooperative and compassionate friends welcomed Divanshu with open arms and helped him get accustomed to Trilokpuri. The class was extremely encouraging and applauded Divanshu on his ability to be able to write the alphabets on the board.
Divanshu is a part of Pratham’s Early Literacy and Numeracy program (Balwachan) for Grade I and Grade II students. The program ensures that children develop and improve upon their reading and writing skills, recognize numbers up to 50, solve simple addition and subtraction problems and develop creative thinking skills. Since July 2013, Divanshu has been a part of the Trilokpuri Center. The Center uses creative teaching activities such as Picture Reading where a child builds a story through pictures, and Story Time where a child develops and shares his/her own tale with the class.
He always helps the teacher by either picking up trash or lending a pencil to one of his classmates. Divanshu loves coming to the Balwachan. He is working hard to improve his reading skills so that he can read storybooks with his grandmother.
