Sameer loves reading the story of the lion and the mouse

Sameer Shabir
Dear Laya, I., Vikram, Rithika, Madhuri, Raj, Erin, and Caroline,

Thank you for ensuring that Sameer and 34 other children like him are enrolled in Pratham’s Read India program for a year.

Eight year old Sameer Shabir lives in a slum community in Mumbai, and studies in grade 3 at a local school. He used to attend school regularly, but wasn’t learning too much in school. His parents put him in the Read India Library Program being conducted in a room in his community, after which there has been a sea change in his attitude towards books and learning. Sameer is encouraged to pick up and read books from the library, and Sameer reads his favouite book on teh fable of the lion and the mouse at least once every day. When he is reading, nothing can distract him, and he is quick to ask questions when he doesn’t understand something. Sameer says that his favorite subject is Maths.

Your donations will ensure that Sameer and 34 other children like him are enrolled in Pratham’s Read India program where they are provided need-based instruction in reading, writing and basic arithmetic to bring them to the literacy levels expected of children their age.

Thank you, for doing your bit to ensure that ‘every child in India is in school and learning well‘.
