Shalu loves books

Shalu
Dear Nagesh, Natasha, Prabha, Sharmi, Sujoy, Danielle, and Arvind,

Thank you for ensuring that Shalu and 34 other children like her are enrolled in Pratham’s Read India program for a year.

Four year old Shalu lives in a slum community in Mumbai. She is the youngest in a family of 5 daughters and one son. Her father is a tailor, and her mother is a housewife. Three of Shalu’s sisters are enrolled in the Read India Library Program, and one day her sister brought her to the class with her. Shalu loved the class, and started attending regularly since that day. Though she is too young to read, Pratham believes it is never too early to develop a love for books, and Shalu has. She has her own favorite picture books, which her sisters help her read. When she is not reading, Shalu loves playing with water.

Your donations will ensure that Shalu and 34 other children like her are enrolled in Pratham’s Read India program where they are provided need-based instruction in reading, writing and basic arithmetic to bring them to the literacy levels expected of children their age.

Thank you, for doing your bit to ensure that ‘every child in India is in school and learning well‘.
