Prakash is now proud of his Reading ability

Thank you for coming together to give Prakash and nineteen others like him an education.

Prakash is a seven year old boy from Solan district in Himachal Pradesh. He is enrolled in grade 2 at the local village school, but  he showed no interest in learning and only want to play and have fun. However, since he was enrolled in the Read India program conducted by Pratham, he§s started showing some interest in reading ­ the main motivator being the colorful reading books provided by Pratham. Though he started out by just looking at the pictures, the lure of actually reading the stories proved irresistible. His reading skills have improved dramatically- where one month back, he struggled with reading simple words, he has now started reading entire stories.The teachers are now planning to work similar magic with his mathematical skills!

Your donations would ensure that Prakash, and 19 other children like him are enrolled in Pratham’s Read India program where they are provided need-based instruction in reading, writing and basic arithmetic to bring them to the literacy levels expected of children their age.
