The aspiring police officer
posted April 10, 2011

Seven year old Tanu is in grade 2 at the local village school in the village of Majra in Meerut District, Uttar Pradesh. When she was assessed a year back, it was found that she was at the ‘nothing level’ of learning- meaning she could neither count, nor recognize letters. She is currently enrolled in the Read India program conducted by Pratham, and today she can read simple words and can even count.
Her father works in a factory while her mother takes care of Tanu, and her three other children. Tanu aspires to become a police officer one day and make sure no one is unhappy in her village!
Your donations, Matt, Agnieszka, Ashley, Laurent (x 4), Vijendher, Sanjiv-Rajani, Bill, Greg and Monica, Jeffrey, Smita (x2), Sophia and Larryn (x 2), and UBS (x 4), would ensure that Tanu, and 19 other children like her are enrolled in Pratham’s Read India program where they are provided need-based instruction in reading, writing and basic arithmetic to bring them to the literacy levels expected of children their age.
Thank you, for doing your bit to ensure that ‘every child in India is in school and doing well‘.
