Shyam, the budding cricketer
posted February 4, 2011
Dear matt, Amanda, Timothy, Kabir, Niranjan, Paul, Amie, Craig, Craig, Elena and Shanen, Rick and Beth, and Peter,
Shyam is a naughty 7 year old from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh who loves to play bat and ball. He one lucky guy who does not plan his Sundays – it’s simply bat and ball all day! He was enrolled in Pratham’s learning classes this year and his teacher says he has shown great improvement since then. In the beginning he could not even count properly, but now he can even add and subtract easily. His mother works as a cook to support his education. Shyam wants to be a cricketer one day- the numbers he learns will some day stand him in good stead when he is chasing records.
Niranjan, Craig, Elena and Shanen, Rick and Beth, Craig, Peter, Kabir (x7), Matt, Amanda (x2), Timothy, Paul and Amie (x2), your donations will ensure that Shyam, and 19 other children like him are enrolled in Pratham’s Read India program.
There, they are provided need-based instruction in reading, writing and basic arithmetic to bring them to the literacy levels expected of children their age.
Thank you, for doing your bit to ensure that ‘every child in India is in school and doing well‘.
